New Line in '09!

If you were dreading the off season, dread no more. In addition to an expanded line of PowerTaps this fall, which will result in a price range to accommodate both ends of the budget spectrum, CycleOps will be introducing many new members of their industry leading family - one of the greatest innovations being the Powerbeam Pro Trainer.

This new model will actually have a built-in PowerTap, and will self-adjust resistance in order to maintain a prescribed power output. Users will even be able to upload specific workouts in order to precisely dial in training, and with a sustained resistance of more than 1300 watts, it's set to accommodate everyone from Johnny Rookie to Chris Lieto. Also watch for Powerbeam Pro little brothers the JetFluid Pro and the SuperMagneto Pro to take fluid and magnet-based trainers to the next level by offering a more compact, functional design as well as souped-up performance settings.

These trainers, as well as the rest of the new line for '09 will be available in September. Be sure to visit for specific release date and product details, coming soon.

Cooking with JP

By JP "Pooh Bear" Severin

As we all know, triathletes can eat. I can’t tell you how many articles I have read that chastise triathletes for “training to eat” not “eating to train”. Well, quite frankly, I am basically training myself to eat and I think I am doing a bang up job. Restaurants and Beehives alike tremble before the horrible and tremendous appetite that is Pooh Bear. With that said, here is a recipe I recently tried that kicked the rumbly out of my tumbly.

Focaccia (Flatbread)

• 2 teaspoons salt
• 1 tablespoon white sugar
• 1 package instant yeast
• 1 1/3 cups warm water
• 3 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil, divided
• 2 tablespoons chopped fresh rosemary
• 2 tablespoons grated sharp cheddar cheese
• 3 cups unbleached all-purpose flour
• Pinch of Red pepper flakes

• In a large bowl, stir flour and salt. Make a well in the center of the flour mixture. Sprinkle the sugar and yeast into that well. Pour the water into the well. ( No biggie if you destroy the walls of your well) Let stand until the yeast begins to act, about 5 minutes. Pour 2 tablespoons of the oil into the well. Stir and widen the circle of stirring until dough includes all flour.

• Knead on a floured surface. Keep the dough soft. Pour a bit of oil into a clean bowl. Place the dough in the bowl and cover outside with oil. Cover. Let rise until doubled which takes about 30 minutes.

• Punch the dough down. Grease baking sheet with oil, and place the dough on the sheet. Press the dough out to about 1/2 inch thickness. Brush some oil over the top of the dough. Cut several grooves in the bread. Sprinkle with the rosemary, red pepper flakes, and the cheese. Place in a cold oven on the center shelf. Place a flat pan of hot water on the shelf below the bread. Let rise until doubled, 20 to 25 minutes.

• Preheat oven to 375 F. Bake the focaccia for 20 to 25 minutes, or until browned on top. Remove from the pan, and cool on a wire rack.

• Eat yourself into a food coma.

Steelhead: 2008!

Well what a wild and crazy ride it was to round out the team event for 2008. The Steelhead 70.3 (turned du) was definitely one for the books. With incredible team photographer James Korn along, we're fortunate to be able to show you the day in pictures:

A warm thanks to all who attended and cheered us on the entire day, namely Steve Stenzel, as well as new recruit JP "Pooh Bear" Severin's parents and his fellow Michigan State Spartans! There was certainly no shortage of Go Evotri shouted on the course from beginning to end, which only fueled the already high camaraderie. Once again, a big thanks goes out to all.

We're also proud to announce that many members of the crew completely shattered their bike splits on this course, which contributed to Rural-Girl claiming a Clearwater slot and Sweet wrapping up first in his age group! Way to go team!

Another highlight of the weekend was of course being able to officially meet and welcome JP to the group. He's as charming as he is tall, and as kind as he is wickedly fast. We're definitely looking forward to what looks to be an excellent team evolution in progress.

Be sure to check out each team members' personal sites (found under the team bios tab) for all the race details!
